Summertime Travel and Pet Safety

This summer before you travel, makes sure your pet is vaccinated with flea, tick and heartworm medication.  In addition, you also want to make sure your pet has a collar nd tags and a microchip.  There have been cases where a lost dog during a vacation ended up in a shelter and then being adopted by another family.  You may want to bring medical records, photos of your pet and identification along in the event you need you need to make a trip to the vet or he is lost.

When packing, bring extra collars, food, treats, leashes, water and bowls.  Remember that distraction while driving is dangerous.  Your pet should be harnessed in the back seat securely.  Choose a harness that provides crash protection and secures your pet in place.  Seatbelts should not be used to harness your pet.  Their legs can get tangled up and can be seriously injured.

Do not allow your dog to stick his head out the window.  It is simply dangerous for him for the same reasons it is dangerous for us.  Tiny debris can get into their eyes and be expensive to treat.  Your pet should never be left in a hot car.   He can get heat stroke and deadly within minutes.

Yes, summertime can be full of fun and great memories with your family.  Fidos Family wants you to keep your pets safe and enjoy your summer!
